As an educator, Einstein’s quote, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough” is spot on when it comes to evaluating student understanding in my class. The key to learning it is that you know a concept so well, you can simply explain it to anyone, at any time, anywhere and without any intervention, or help, from anywhere or anyone other than your own brain. When you can explain an entire concept succinctly, you are truly synthesizing and evaluating the information based on what you already know and connecting it to the new information; therefore, you are simply summarizing.
So, plan well. Know your stuff. Rock on with your amazingness!
