As I juggle online teacher duties and three daughters over the next two weeks of winter break, I am reminded how important kindness is in our noisy house. Today I woke up at my normal 5:30am just so I could have some quiet time before the girls woke up. I made “KINDNESS no matter what” my affirmation for the day.
Then they were up. And there was um, crabbiness, demanding proclamations, and the like…
And so that started a whole lot of conversation of HOW we could get caught being kind. So, being the techie teacher that I am, we came up with this little contest.
Together we created the rules and the prizes for our Kindness Contest.
Right now, my 8 year old is singing and vacuuming. So I gave her a point. Right!? It’s working. For now I’m winning.
Soon enough, I will see and feel the opposite of kindness and I will remove points for it. As they would say, I’m such a tough cookie with the rules. But we become what we practice.
Want to join us? Just print and display this Kindness Contest. It’s a document you can tweak, too! Tell us how it worked, or didn’t for work for you!
